The American public has seen and heard Donald Trump do his speeches and addresses since the rise of the COVID-19 cases in the United States. While his initial plan to reopen the country by Easter did not succeed, he is now, reportedly, pushing for another date. As per reports, May 1 is likely the date that he has deemed to be the best fit to reopen "much" of the country.
The lockdown measures were extended until the end of the month. This is probably the reason why everyone is eager to know if it will be the last time that the administration will extend the social distancing guidelines.
According to The Washington Post, several sources, who are, reportedly, close to the situation, claimed that Donald Trump has sought the right "strategy" to "resume the business activity" in the country after the extended lockdown date. It was said that this is because the US President is "concerned" with the "sagging economy."
Although some individuals have been looking forward to this, it was said that these statements made by the President have raised concerns from several officials. As reported, the majority of them do not think that May 1 will be the best date to reopen the United States.
It was said that many of the officials deem that there might be a huge possibility of a "COVID-19 resurgence" if the American public would return to their normal day-to-day living, the same way they had it before the pandemic. This could "severely reverse the progress," an expert, reportedly, added.
Several health experts also noted that if Donald Trump still pushes through with this, it will require "several millions" of tests every week, just to "contain the virus." With the 325 million Americans, not to mention, a remaining two weeks before the month ends, it is not very advisable for the United States to continue its "business-as-usual" dynamic, one expert explained.
Despite the opposition, though, The Sun UK reported that the US President seemingly "ruled out" mass testing in the country. While he mentioned that it will be a "nice" thing to do, he, reportedly, said that it is not a need.
Donald Trump then went on to claim that the rate of deaths due to the COVID-19 crisis in the country will likely be lower than 100,000. It was noted that during this address, the cases were at 454,304 with 16,267 deaths.
The numbers have since soared, however, during the weekend. As of the time of writing, the United States has a total of 589,015 cases with a total of 24,527 deaths.
