Prince William and Kate Middleton have been an image of an ideal couple for years. Despite their royal status, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have always been relatable when it comes to their relationship and family values.
However, things were not all rainbows and butterflies for Prince William and Kate Middleton. In fact, the couple briefly split in 2007 and media is partly to be blamed for their breakup.
A lot of people are familiar with the love story of Prince William and Kate Middleton. They became friends during their days at St. Andrews and started dating two years after they struck a friendship. Of course, just like most relationships, theirs is not perfect as well.
While dating a real-life Prince appears to be a scene out of a fairy tale, it certainly is not that easy and Kate Middleton witnessed this firsthand. The Duchess of Cambridge may have a great relationship with the media at the moment, but she struggled to adapt to paparazzi following her nonstop in the early years of her relationship with Prince William.
In fact, the unnecessary attention was so intense that the Royal family released a statement asking the media to leave Kate Middleton alone.
"He wants more than anything for it to stop,” Prince William's press secretary wrote. "Miss Middleton should, like any other private individual, be able to go about her everyday business without this kind of intrusion. The situation is proving unbearable for all those concerned."
Five years into their relationship, Prince William and Kate Middleton, who were in their mid-twenties, were pressured by the media to get engaged. However, the Duke of Cambridge was not ready to settle down at the time and the “intense media pressure” made him evaluate his relationship with Kate, as per E! News.
Prince Charles then gave Prince William something to ponder. The future King told his son that if he wasn’t sure about his future with Kate Middleton, then breaking things off with her was the best option — and that’s exactly what he did.
Prince William broke up with Kate Middleton over the phone, leaving the Duchess of Cambridge heartbroken. The couple eventually got back together, got married, had three beautiful children — six-year-old Prince George, four-year-old Princess Charlotte, and one-year-old Prince Louis — and became two of the most popular members of the Royal family.
