The second-generation Samsung Galaxy Watch is long overdue, and the South Korean tech giant has not yet confirmed if it is going the launch the smart wearable this year. However, a new report surfaced online claiming that the Galaxy Watch 2 could arrive this year. Interestingly, the latest claim is based on a document from a certain regulator.
The latest information about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 was discovered by My Smart Price and picked by Sam Mobile. The site reported that it found a couple of models of Samsung smartwatches on the official website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China. It also shared a screenshot of the website, which reportedly shows either the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 or the Galaxy Watch Active 3.
These models are concealed under codenames SM-R850 and SM-R840. These codenames allegedly represent two different face sizes, possibly 40mm and 44mm, the report claims. Additionally, the site believes that the numbered codenames SM-R855 and SM-R845 stand for alternative connectivity.
One of the models features WiFi only connectivity while the other supports LTE connection. The listing does not reveal a lot of details about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2, or it directly states that it will be called with that name. But, it mentions that the smartwatch would support 2.4 GHz WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity.
These alleged Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 and Galaxy Watch 3 smartwatches allegedly would feature 8 GB storage, which is twice the storage capacity of the current generation Galaxy Watch. But, if compared to the 32 GB storage of Apple Watch 5, the increased size is just a quarter. Aside from this, the rumored Galaxy Watch 2 is anticipated to pack an increased battery capacity from 247 mAh to 330 mAh.

Samsung usually launches the Galaxy Watch alongside its flagship smartphone. This year, it only launched the Samsung Galaxy S20 series. There is a possibility that the Galaxy Watch 2 might launch alongside the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 in the second half of the year.
Some tech enthusiasts believe that the COVID-19 pandemic might delay the launch of Samsung's smart wearable 2021. At this point, nothing is official yet, as Samsung remains tight-lipped when it comes to its upcoming products these days. It is worth noting that while details about the Samsung Galaxy Watch 2 are exciting and seem legit, for now, these are mere speculations. In this case, take this information with a spoonful of salt.
