On May 12, 2020, search engine giant Google shared details on the end of Google Play Music. It was in 2017 when the tech juggernaut said that it would soon merge Google Play Music with the music streaming service of YouTube known as YouTube Red. Here are some tips on how to migrate your Google Play Music list to YouTube.

How To Get Google Play Music Uploads To YouTube Music

The first and the most important thing to do is to download the YouTube Music app from the Google Play Store or iOS Store. When you are done, open the app and look for the transfer button in the YouTube Music. Google will take care of the migration and will send you a notification when it is complete. All your Google Play Music content could be found in the Library tab of the YouTube Music.

Other YouTube Music Details

According to the search engine giant, the move is to avoid confusion on the music services it is offering to consumers. It took the company three long years to make this vision a reality. Google confirmed in its official statement that Google Play Music is shutting down in 2020.

In a blog post, Google said, "For now, users will continue to have access to both services." The search engine giant stated that "We want to ensure everyone has time to transfer their content and get used to YouTube Music, so we'll provide plenty of notice ahead of users no longer having access to Google Play Music later this year." The company also simplified the migration process from Google Play Music to YouTube Music for the convenience of its users.

New YouTube Music Features

It is also interesting that the tech giant addressed the feedback users provided for Google Play Music. In response, Google released new features to YouTube Music, which intend to allow the latest music streaming service to be more compatible with the older Google Play Music. This will also allow a convenient and easier transition between the two music streaming services.

Apart from those, Google also increased the playlist length of YouTube Music from 1,000 to 5,000 songs. Now, the music streaming service of YouTube offers support for uploads for up to 100,000 tracks, an impressive jump from the 50,000 tracks offered by Google Play Music. Lyrics and even offline listening are now available on YouTube Music. Additionally, new music, genres, and playlists can now be easily discovered through the Explore tab of YouTube Music.
