Earlier this week, reliable Apple tipster Max Weinbach revealed that the iPhone 12 might feature a 120 Hz ProMotion display refresh rate. But, a display analyst disagreed with him and claimed that this year only one smartphone would feature such refresh rate, and that's Samsung Galaxy Note. It appears that the analyst now doubles down on his earlier claim stating that the standard Galaxy Note 20 model will not feature the 120 Hz display refresh rate.

Display Supply Chain Consultants Chief Executive Officer and Analyst Ross Young is back once again with his claims about the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Note 20 Plus. Earlier, he said that only the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Plus would feature the most requested 120 Hz display refresh rate. He promised earlier that he would be back to share more details about the upcoming smartphone from the South Korean tech giant.

On his official Twitter account, Young shared that the base model Samsung Galaxy Note 20 would feature LTPS at 60 Hz while the premium Galaxy Note 20 Plus model would maintain the earlier claim of 120 Hz LTPO or Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide. The display analyst believed that it makes sense considering that while the LTPS display could accommodate 120 Hz display refresh rate, it drains the smartphone's juice fast. Also, he said that the LTPO costs more than the LTPS, so it is just right for Samsung to have the premium model feature that kind of display.

"Note 20 Update - while the Note 20+ remains LTPO and 120Hz, the Note 20 will be LTPS and 60Hz. Makes sense since LTPO costs more and should appear first in premium models. You can do 120Hz with LTPS, but it consumes a lot of power. LTPO is the best implementation for 120Hz," the executive noted.

When he was asked by another industry insider if the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 would not feature a 120 Hz display refresh rate, Young confirmed that the feature would be available on the Galaxy Note 20 Plus. However, he said that the South Korean tech giant already confirmed to them that the standard Galaxy Note 20 would not have the sane display refresh rate. At this point, we could not confirm these details about the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 series.

The anticipated smartphone series from Samsung is still a few months away from its official launch. In this case, it is safer to take this information with a pinch of salt.
