Long before Apple confirmed the existence of the iPhone 12, the Internet already feasted on its key specs and features. A new set of leaks recently revealed the official names, sizes, configurations, and prices of Apple's next-generation flagship iPhone series. While the Cupertino-based tech titan is yet to launch the iPhone 12, a new set of leaks revealing the design of the iPhone 13 surfaced online.

iPhone 13 Features New Design

Apple's upcoming flagship smartphone, the iPhone 12 series is anticipated to feature a smaller notch compared to the current generation iPhone 11 series, and several other design changes. However, according to a new leak, the upcoming iPhone 13 would feature a radical design. The leak claims that the flagship iPhone series anticipated to arrive in 2021 would be the Cupertino tech giant's first-ever portless smartphone.

The new set of leaks about the iPhone 13 also reveals that the next flagship iPhone series would only charge wirelessly. The information comes from Twitter user 9TechEleven, which states that Apple would drop the lightning port as well as the USB-C port. The tipster notes, "Leaks say that Apple plans to go port-less in the next years. Meaning moving from lightning port to completely wireless charging."

This new set of leaks about the iPhone 13 series is confirmed by another reputable Apple tipster, Jon Prosser of Front Page Tech. In response to the tweet, Prosser notes that "One portless iPhone coming next year. Never USB-C. Eventually, they'll all be portless." The iPhone 13 is still a year away, but if the latest leak is accurate, it could mean a significant shift in the vision of the Cupertino tech juggernaut.

Other iPhone 13 Details

Over the years, a portless smartphone has been conceptualized and proposed. However, the industry has yet to see one. For users' convenience, Apple has repeatedly chosen to use the Lightning port instead of moving to the USB-C port. It even defended its stand in Jan 2019 against the European Union.

Early last year, the EU parliament voted in favor of a universal charging standard as one way of reducing electronic waste. Apple issued a statement about this, convincing the EU that its decision could only lead to more electronic waste. The implementation of Eu's decision has not yet materialized, and Apple could no longer do anything but to wait for it to happen.

Apple's decision to go portless on the iPhone 13 line up may be partly because of the EU's recent decision. The iPhone 13 series would instead rely on wireless charging to provide the juice to the device. It is also worth noting that Apple is resurrecting the once abolished AirPower wireless charging pad. All of these pieces collate to a high likelihood that Apple is planning to introduce the portless iPhone 13 series in 2021.
