There is little doubt that Trekkies are already excited about Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, the new series that will serve as a spin-off to Star Trek: Discovery. After all, the new CBS All Access show will focus on Captain Christopher Pike, Number One, and Spock and is something of a prequel to the original Star Trek series. Not surprisingly, fans already have speculations about what could happen now that a younger version of Spock will be part of the main cast. One of the things that people are already wondering about is whether Ethan Peck's character will experience his first pon farr.

But what is pon farr? For the uninitiated, pon farr is the Vulcan male's biological mating period when they are ready to find a partner. The rowdy period takes place every seven years in a Vulcan's life when he comes of age. Not surprisingly, Vulcans eventually get used to the idea as they get older and can usually prepare for an upcoming pon farr. On the other hand, the first pon farr might be awkward if the male is not yet expecting to experience it.

So what are the chances that Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will feature Spock's first pon farr? Interestingly, Ethan Peck seems to be expecting it to happen in the upcoming series. The actor recently spoke to Variety about the possibility and it sounds like this could be something that the show will explore. "I really have no idea, but I would think it's a strong possibility," Peck said.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds will not be the first series that will depict Spock's pon farr. This was previously featured in the original Star Trek show in the episode 'Amok Time' where Leonard Nimoy's Spock went through what is believed to be his second pon farr. Since Strange New Worlds is expected to take place a few years before the events in that particular episode, there is a huge chance that fans will get to see Spock's first pon farr soon.

Although he didn't confirm whether fans will get to see Spoke getting rowdy, Ethan Peck did admit that he is eager to keep playing the Star Trek character in Strange New Worlds. "It'll be a whole new challenge for me as an actor portraying Spock because you've had this transformation," Peck said. "I can't wait to see what we explore."

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds does not have an official release date yet but is expected to air on CBS All Access by 2021.
