One of the highly anticipated laptops reportedly arriving this year is the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4. Its predecessor, the Surface Laptop 3, houses a Ryzen 5 3580U and AMD's Ryzen 7 3780U. A new leak recently claimed that the next-generation Surface laptop from the Redmond-based company might feature an eight-core sixteen threads AMD Ryzen 7 4800U.

The latest information about the CPU of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 came from serial tipster APISAK. The hardware leaker found a 3DMark entry of AMD Ryzen 7 4800U and was able to discover some details of the possible machine which will run with the said processor. The 3DMark entry notes Microsoft as the vendor of the device.

Because of this, many enthusiasts speculate that the AMD Ryzen 7 4800U may be on the upcoming Microsoft Surface Laptop 4. However, it is also possible that the CPU was tested on the rumored powerful laptop that the Redmond tech giant is anticipated to launch. Microsoft's strategic move of equipping the Surface Laptop 3 with Ryzen CPU was successful, and the company will likely maintain the same brand of processor in its upcoming laptop.

Considering that the alleged chips would use the 7nm fabrication process along with the latest Zen 2 architecture, it would not be a surprise to see a substantial increase in thermals, processes, and battery life of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Laptop 4. The flagship mobile part AMD Ryzen 7 4800U packs 8 CPU cores with 16 threads performance.

It has a base clock of 1.8 GHz and boosts up to 4.2 GHz. The rumored CPU of the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 has configurable TDP's, which ranges between 1- and 25W. It comes with eight graphic cores that can run for up to 1750 MHz. If Microsoft's upcoming laptop would indeed house the rumored AMD CPU, the Vega GPU would get several benefits from the higher clocked RAM.

Considering that the Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 would feature the AMD Ryzen 7 4800U, its memory controller is rated at most of either LPDDR4-4266 and DDR4-3200. It would be a significant improvement from the DDR4-2400 of AMD Ryzen 7 3780. It is worth mentioning that these details are not yet official.

As always, it is safer to take this information with a pinch of salt. Microsoft has not yet revealed the release window of the Surface Laptop 4. The Surface Laptop 3 was released in October 2019, so if nothing changes, consumers might hear more about the upcoming laptop in the coming months.
