Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference 2020 is just a few days away. Aside from the announcement of a new set hardware, the Cupertino -based tech giant is anticipated to debut the new iOS 14 and macOS 10.16 at the said event. Apple scheduled the WWDC 2020 on June 22 and that it might launch the new iOS with a new name.

Ahead of the annual WWDC 2020, the industry learned that the Cupertino tech juggernaut is planning to change the name of its official software for iPhone. Similar to what it did with the iPad operating system, Apple is reportedly calling the iOS 14 iPhoneOS. The rumored change of name was recently shared bu FrontPageTech's Jon Prosser.

The insider's news is not surprising considering that the Cupertino based tech giant already made the same move in 2019 for its iPad. However, this is the first time that the industry heard about this move for the iOS and a confirmation of what the operating system in the upcoming flagship iPhone. It is worth mentioning that when Apple debuted its mobile software, it was called the iPhone OS.

The company continued to call its proprietary mobile operating system iPhone OS until it introduced iOS 14. During that time, branding was a huge deal but the rumored return of the official iPhone OS name will almost have the same staggering effect to the consumers. Rebranding a leading mobile operating software after a decade is not something that would go unnoticed.

Aside from the rumored change of the official name, the iOS 14 will reportedly introduce several changes. It includes a handy multitasking interface equipped with a list view for apps. It would reportedly come with the capability to assign default applications.

The upcoming iOS 14 may also enable users to utilize apps without the need to download them. Mobile browser Safari would soon come with a built-in translation feature for smooth and fast translation of languages. iMessage would reportedly have the ability to retract sent messages with the upcoming mobile software.

Home screen widgets would be one of the biggest features of iOS 14, according to reports. This particular feature is one of those that has set Android smartphones apart from the iPhone. There are also last-minute rumors revealing that the next mobile software from Apple will offer more extra upgrades.

According to 9to5Mac, Apple Podcasts app will receive a major refresh. It reportedly the For You tab found on Apple Music. With this feature, users can experience more personalized recommendations based on the user's listening habit. Meanwhile, Apple Insider also reported that the iOS 14 will come with a set of sound effects for the long-rumored AirTags.

While these features are exciting, these are not yet official. It is wise to take this information with a pinch of salt and with skepticism.
