The trending hashtag #RIPEllen sent Ellen DeGeneres fans into a panic. It was later confirmed that it was a hoax but the hashtag did not die down easily.

The hashtag #RIPEllen went viral this week when one Twitter user made a false claim that DeGeneres died after falling off a roof. Ellen DeGeneres is alive and well but the Finding Dory actress has yet to respond to the trending hashtag about her.

The #RIPEllen appeared to be the latest attempt by social media users to troll the TV host. Though it was confirmed that DeGeneres is alive, many still continue to use the hashtag along with allegations, comments, and memes about Ellen.

Some also create different scenarios that had led to the Emmy-winning host supposedly taking her own life. Others posted photos of Ellen's look-alike celebrities such as Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Niall Horan, Jane Lynch, and more as Twitter users paid tribute to DeGeneres

Meanwhile, the hashtag allegedly spawned from the rumors that DeGeneres' talk show, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, was going to be canceled. Speculations have been swirling that Ellen's show was in danger of getting axed due to a significant drop in its viewership ratings and other allegations against the TV host. The show's producers, however, denied the rumor.

Over the past months, multiple allegations of being rude to her staff and guests were thrown on DeGeneres. It started in March when comedian Kevin T. Porter launched a Twitter thread calling for anyone who met or had an encounter with DeGeneres to share their stories about the TV host.

In April, the staff and crew of The Ellen DeGeneres Show expressed dismay and outrage by how the show's bosses treated them unfairly during the coronavirus pandemic. Variety reported that employees received little to no communication about how they would be paid while in lockdown. Some were also furious that a non-union tech company was hired to help DeGeneres film from her home instead of using her existing crew.

Ellen DeGeneres was also called out on social media recently after she compared self-isolating in her L.A. mansion to being in prison. There were also claims of rude behavior on her guests despite her friendly manner on her show.

One of those who claimed she did not have a pleasant experience when she first met Ellen was YouTuber Nikkie de Jager. The social media influencer described her appearance at The Ellen DeGeneres Show as "Teletubbies after dark."
