Meghan Markle and Prince Harry decided to turn their backs on Royal life just two years after they said their “I dos.” The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are making a fresh start in the US after they officially stepped down from their roles at the end of March.
Despite their withdrawal, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are still actively appearing in public. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have always been vocal to subjects that they are passionate about, and they didn’t make their Royal exit a hindrance to discuss these issues.
Recently, Meghan Markle joined the 2020 Girl Up Leadership Summit, which is an UN-backed female empowerment meeting. It was noticeable that the Duchess of Sussex ditched her royal title and used her maiden name. This was the first time she used it since her and Prince Harry’s royal exit.
After Meghan Markle became a member of the Royal Family, her royal title is Her Royal Highness, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex. However, there were changes made when the couple officially withdrew from their senior royal roles.
Even though Meghan Markle and Prince Harry will still be known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, they can “no longer formally represent” Queen Elizabeth in their new lives. Also, the couple will lose their HRH titles, and the prince will lose his military titles as well.
That being said, Meghan Markle has reverted to her maiden name at her latest appearance. Appearing via videolink, the former actress was addressed as The Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle at the 2020 Girl Up Leadership Summit.
Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth, previously, released a statement saying that she and the Royal Family members are supporting Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to step down as senior royals. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, then, packed their bags and moved to Los Angeles with their son Archie.
While it seemed like Queen Elizabeth openly accepted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s withdrawal, royal commentator Wesley Kerr shared on Channel 5's The Queen: Duty Before Family? that the Queen would never be forced to give in to the couple’s conditions because she is not one to do something that she did not feel was right.
After announcing their decision, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s website stated that they would “carve out a progressive new role” and “adjust their working model.” But, after their discussion with Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, and Prince William, it was decided that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will completely step back from royal duties as of spring of 2020.
