Prince William and Kate Middleton are two of the most popular and well-loved members of the Royal Family. But, just like everyone else, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are also not exempted from receiving backlash and harsh criticisms.
In fact, Prince William and Kate Middleton were brutally told by the CEO of the Republic, which is a British republican pressure group, to earn their own income. Graham Smith, then, pointed out that the U.K. doesn’t owe the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge anything.
“[The monarchy’s general cost] is about £345million from the taxpayer every year, it needs to be stripped right back. We do not owe Prince William and Kate an income, we do not owe them a role, we don’t owe them anything. They can go off and do their own thing,” he said.
Graham Smith even suggested that Queen Elizabeth should be on an annual salary just like the Prime Minister. The organization’s CEO noted that the Royals spend an outrageous amount of money because they “have a deep-seated sense of entitlement.”
It was previously, reported, that Queen Elizabeth doesn’t have a budget despite her “eye-watering” bills. Her Majesty is not only known for her bright wardrobes, but she also owns multiple expensive royal residences.
Royal butler Paul Burrell revealed that Queen Elizabeth’s wardrobe has its own room in Buckingham Palace. Her Majesty wears brightly-colored outfits to make her stand out from the crowd. She also most of the time wears a matching hat with her wardrobe designed by her dressmaker Angela Kelly or royal couturier Stewart Parvin.
Aside from Queen Elizabeth, Prince William, and Kate Middleton, Graham Smith, also, slammed Prince Harry and Meghan Markle regarding money issues. He said that the U.K. doesn’t owe Meghan the Duke and Duchess of Sussex a penny.
Graham Smith rejected the Duchess of Sussex’s claim that her royal wedding provided an economic boost for Britain. He believes that it’s actually the other way around. He said that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s 2018 wedding was a "net-loss" for UK taxpayers.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle said in their announcement that they wish to be “financially independent” after their royal exit, so they may have already sorted things out. There were whispers and speculations that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will try their luck in the entertainment scene.
Meghan Markle, already, did her Hollywood comeback when she narrated for a Disney documentary titled Elephant back in August last year and was released last month. Although early reviews revealed that the former actress did an “underwhelming” job, it was a taste of the couple’s possible future job.
