A new Tesla document seemingly revealed that the U.S. electric vehicle maker is knee-deep working on a new device-a Tesla smartwatch perhaps. The company is known to branch out of the electric vehicle business. While some are surprised about this recent information, it is worth mentioning that Tesla earlier released the Short Shorts.

New Tesla Smartwatch?

The U.S. electric vehicle maker appears to be working with Xplora technologies, a Norway-based wearable company specializing on smartwatches for kids. In the FCC application, the company listed tesla Motors are involved in the project. The application also intends to keep the aspects of the project confidential.

What baffles tech enthusiasts is Tesla's involvement in the project. The document is seeking the approval of the FCC for the utilization of connectivity on its X5 Play or X5 Play eSIM smartwatches. This device was developed to monitor the activities of kids and enable them to send pre-defined text and voice messages.

Possible Reasons Why Tesla Is Involved

While it is not impossible for Tesla to develop smartwatches for kids, there could be several reasons why its name is on the FCC application. It is highly likely that Tesla acquired Xplora technologies that could very well explain the mention of the company's name in the application, according to Electrek. The site further speculated that Tesla might have acquired the company for its employees.

However, it appeared strange for Tesla to apply for an FCC approval, which aims to launch the product in the U.S., the site argued. It also toyed with the idea that the U.S. electric vehicle is considering using the smartwatch platform of Xplora technologies. Several third-party app developers have developed apps for the Apple Watch to control Tesla vehicles using smart wearables.

The site considered the possibility that Tesla is moving to use smartphones instead of key fobs for the Model Y and Model 3. It added that the electric vehicle maker might be entertaining the possibility that a Tesla smartwatch could serve as an optional key for its vehicles. It is worth mentioning that there is nothing in the FCC application that mentions anything about the Tesla smartwatch.

In other words, the possibility of Tesla making a smart wearable is just a speculation. In other Tesla news, Tesla Model 3 is adjudged as the most imported sedan in South Korea for the first half of 2020. Recently, the Ministry of Environment announced that it would recalibrate its EV subsidies list, which Tesla has generously benefitted. Rumors have it that the electric vehicle maker might no longer be included in the said list.
