DC FanDome has given comic book fans exactly what they have been waiting for for a long time. In addition to dropping the new trailers for Wonder Woman 1984, The Suicide Squad, and The Batman, the virtual convention also allowed people see the cast and crew talk about the upcoming DC Extended Universe films.
Not surprisingly, there was an awesome update on the sequel to Shazam! as well. The movie's panel finally revealed the official title of Shazam 2 and the cast even offered a glimpse at its new poster.
There have been several speculations about the official title of Shazam 2. At one point, some fans believed that it might have a simple yet quirky title when director David F. Sandberg shared a mock teaser for the sequel on his official Twitter account.
The fake teaser only featured a bunch of "reviews" of the movie and concluded with a new logo "Shazam!!" with two exclamation points. Although this would have been an awesome idea, it looks like the second Shazam! film will have a more traditional title that includes a subtitle.
Like all upcoming DC Extended Universe projects, Shazam! had its own panel at DC FanDome which was attended by director David F. Sandberg as well as cast members Zachary Levi, Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Faithe Herman, Meagan Good, and Adam Brody. During the panel, the cast discussed the movie and at one point, Herman pointed out that she wanted to color the film's poster.
The young actress worked on her little project on her own then later showed it off before the end of the panel. In addition to the Shazam Family taking center stage in the poster, it also featured a raccoon, a dog, the actor Sinbad, and the title, Shazam: Fury of the Gods.
It's an interesting title considering that people have been expecting big things in Shazam 2. Fans believe that the idea of gods being mentioned in the title could mean that the DC Extended Universe will finally introduce the gods who lent their powers to Shazam.
But, could it also suggest that the gods will not be happy with Billy Batson after what happened in the first movie? The truth could be revealed when more details about Fury of the Gods are released later this year.
The official title for Shazam 2 is Shazam: Fury of the Gods. The film is expected to begin production later this year or in early 2021. It is currently scheduled for release on November 4, 2022.
