Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wish to raise Archie as a private citizen. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex registered their son as Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor even though the little boy was entitled to take Harry's subsidiary title, the Earl of Dumbarton.

When Prince Harry married Meghan Markle in 2018, Queen Elizabeth gave them the title of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. According to the laws around hereditary peerages, Archie is still likely to inherit the Duke of Sussex title after his father’s death despite his parents’ wish to distance him from the royal bubble.

"At that moment, by law, Archie will become - whether he chooses to be or not - HRH Prince Archie of Sussex for life. At his death, the HRH dies too, he can pass on to any male heir the title Duke of Sussex, but not HRH or Prince,” Constitutional expert Iain MacMarthanne explained.

But, according to the book Finding Freedom, Prince Charles will have the power to give what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle wanted for Archie. Authors Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand noted that the Prince of Wales could create a law to free his grandson from taking a title when he becomes king.

When Charles ascends the throne, the line of succession will shift up a place. Meaning, Archie will be sixth in line to the throne, unless Prince William and Kate Middleton will have another child before then.

Being sixth in line to the British throne, Archie is obliged to ask the presiding monarch for permission to marry. This is something that he is not required to do as a private citizen, which Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are aiming for.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love-hate relationship with the spotlight became a little too much for them to handle. So, they turned their backs on royal life, packed their bags, and relocated to the U.S. The couple, then, decided that they want Archie to completely avoid the negativity surrounding their status.

Now, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are starting a new life outside the Royal Family. The couple just struck a mega-deal with Netflix, where they will produce films, documentaries, and children's shows.

Even though their new foundation is expected to come to light later this year, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have already worked on it for months. Unfortunately, their plans for Archewell came to a screeching halt due to the coronavirus outbreak.
