If you're either suffering from inflammation or swelling, take a good look at what you're eating. Avoiding certain foods that cause inflammation will make you feel much better.

Sugar

The sweet stuff is no friend to anybody and can cause inflammation all over the body. All of the sugar, colorants, and preservatives induce inflammation. Foods that cause inflammation do so by destroying the gut lining that results in leaky gut. Our gut lining is thin and can be quickly harmed, allowing contaminants from food to penetrate the bloodstream. This leakage will cause an inflammation of the entire body.

Fried foods

Not shockingly, French fries aren't the healthiest option, but they could do more harm than you think. The study has shown that the incidence of inflammatory factors is greater among people who consume a diet rich in deep-fried food.

White bread

Wheat products such as white bread and pasta can cause swift inflammation in the body. Refined wheat flours have been deprived of their slow-digesting fiber and nutrients, which ensures that the body can very easily break down these foods. The quicker our bodies break down these carbohydrates, the more our blood sugar levels increase. This triggers an insulin surge, leading to inflammation.

Donuts

The morning donut may be wonderful, but by lunchtime, it can induce some severe inflammation. Pastries add a big dose of sugar and trans fats to our bodies. The immune system is flagged, and inflammation is activated when the body experiences an imbalance, such as in blood glucose levels. These surges of sugar will increase levels of pro-inflammatory messengers known as cytokines in the body. In donuts, the trans-fatty acids often contribute to inflammation and other heart issues.

Deli meat

If your regular turkey sandwich has bored you, consider mixing things up and skipping deli meat entirely. Packaged meats contain more advanced glycation end products (AGEs) than most other meats. AGEs are inflammatory compounds that are formed at high temperatures when the meats are roasted, grilled, or otherwise processed and baked. Established to cause inflammation, these AGEs contribute to chronic illnesses such as colon cancer.

Soda

A 2018 Journal of Nutrition study showed that women who drank the most soda had the highest level of inflammatory biomarkers and cardiovascular risk relative to women who consumed less of the bubbly stuff.

So how do we fend off chronic inflammation? Along with eliminating the foods on this list, start introducing some healthier foods to reduce any inflammation you may have. Choose fresh fruits and vegetables, including blueberries, cherries, leafy greens, tomatoes -- you get it.
