There is apparently a key difference in how the royal family treats the mothers of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. The royals seem to embrace Doria Ragland more than Carole Middleton into the fold and this has, reportedly, upset the Duchess of Cambridge.

Meghan is particularly close to her mother, Doria, because it has always been just the two of them. The Duchess of Sussex comes from a broken family and has an estranged relationship with her father, Thomas Markle, and half-siblings.

Kate, on the other hand, has a stable family life. The Duchess of Cambridge grew up with her three siblings and her entrepreneur parents, with a relatively easy and happy childhood.

According to Daily Express, a tiff apparently happened between the Kate and the Queen over Meghan's mother shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan got married in 2018. The Duchess of Cambridge could not accept that Queen Elizabeth invited Doria to spend that year's Christmas holidays with the royal family.

An insider claimed that Queen Elizabeth extended the invitation to Doria because she knew that it's just her and Meghan for the holidays. But, this made Kate upset. The mom of three reportedly felt that the Queen gave special treatment to Meghan's mom while never extending the same invite to her mother, Carole.

But, another source said that the royal family's treatment towards Carole and Michael Middleton soured because of how much they get to spend time with William, Kate and the children -- Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Carole is also not a favorite among royal courtiers because she is quite protective the Cambridges. The source also said that Kate's mom is someone "exudes grandiose presence" when she comes by Kensington Palace.

According to royal journalist Katie Nicholl, Kate's parents were once invited to Prince Charles' home in Scotland but these occasions have not been repeated anymore. In recent years, the invitations to the Middletons to join royal events have been fewer. They weren't at one key event in 2016, when Queen Elizabeth celebrated her 90th birthday.

However, royal reporter Emily Nash said, in the documentary Kate: The Making of a Modern Queen, that Carole and Queen Elizabeth get along quite well despite the reports. The two ladies were seen spending time in Balmoral.

The Queen drove Carole around her estate and pointed some sites to her. Nash also said that Carole seems comfortable around the company of Her Majesty and the feeling is mutual.
