Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially stepped down from their senior royal roles at the end of March. While Queen Elizabeth stated that she and the Royal Family support the couple’s decision, they have certain terms to follow.

Despite their withdrawal, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle revealed that they still wish to serve Queen Elizabeth but Her Majesty declined their request. After much deliberation, it was decided that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will completely step back from royal duties as of spring of 2020.

As part of their royal exit deal, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will lose their HRH titles, and they are banned from using the term “royal” in their new ventures. The Duke of Sussex will also lose his military titles.

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were not stripped of their royal titles, but non-working members of the Royal Family do not use their HRH titles.  Since the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stepped down from their senior royal roles, they have lost their privilege to use it.

However, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are using their HRH titles despite being non-working royals. The sisters are allowed to use their titles unlike Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. In fact, the Sussexes seemingly referred to Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in their Sussex Royal transition details.

“While there is precedent for other titled members of the Royal Family to seek employment outside of the institution, for The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, a 12-month review period has been put in place,” the website stated.

Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie are both royal by birth. They are the daughters of Prince Andrew, who is the second son of Queen Elizabeth. The sisters have their own careers, and it is not known why Her Majesty allowed the duo to use their HRH titles with their work and not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Meanwhile, June was the start for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to abide with the arrangement after their royal exit. The Duke of Sussex’s Travalyst website, which is an environmental tourism initiative, removed all references to him as "His Royal Highness.”

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle also abandoned their Instagram account because it was named “Sussex Royal.” When the couple created their social media account, they amassed over 11 million followers. However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have lost hundreds of thousands of followers after their royal exit.
