Months have passed since The Last Kingdom Season 4 dropped on Netflix. Avid fans and watchers seemingly took advantage of the lockdown measures and immediately finished watching the latest ten-episode installment.

The streaming giant renewed the show for another season a few weeks after the latest season arrived. However, the filming has yet to begin due to the COVID-19 crisis, which continues to impact populations across the globe.

But, as the lockdown measures ease in some countries, the historical drama shared its good news earlier this week. Season 5 of the show will begin its filming before the year ends, according to the Daily Express.

The Last Kingdom will continue to use its Hungary setting for Season 5. Speaking to the Radio Times, author of The Saxon Stories, Bernard Cornwell confirmed that they are about to start the filming soon. He, also, ensured the public that the production, along with all of the staff, will comply with the COVID-19 guidelines.

Reports previously said that Hungary lifted its strict restrictions back in May 2020. This allowed filming for several series materials, including The Saxon Stories-based show.

The line producer, Cait Collins stated that they filmed a few materials for the new season. She added that there is already a lot of "infrastructure" and props for the set.

Season 5 of The Last Kingdom will center on the books, Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer, which are from the same book series. Based on the timeline, Uhtred will portray a much older version of him in the upcoming installment.

Reports continued that he would act as a teacher to King Edward's eldest son, Aethelstan. Considering that Season 4 ended with him taking care and responsibility for the young heir, the new season will likely start its plot showing the older versions of the two characters.

There is very little information about the details of the new season. Nevertheless, fans are already looking forward to its arrival, possibly in the summer of 2021.

As the stars of The Last Kingdom wait for the filming, reports shared that they continue to fill their time with various projects outside the show. James Northcote and Emily Cox, who play the roles of Aldhelm and Brida, respectively, are working on separate film projects amid the pandemic crisis. Northcote took part in The Fortress Built By Nature, which focuses on the COVID-19 outbreak.

While some of the celebrities remain working on different film materials, others, reportedly, take on new ventures outside the industry. Stars Eliza Butterworth and Mark Rowley, who play the roles of Aelswith and Finan, are using their time to teach acting classes online.
