The 2022 GMC Hummer EV has its first public sighting in Michigan and almost immediately, speculations run wild on the development progress of the all-electric pickup truck. The prototype that was spotted revealed many things and chief of them is that the upcoming EV could be nearing the production stage.

The new Hummer was seen running on the road at a normal speed and it can be assumed that initial testing of the truck is now underway. If true, this indicates that work on the vehicle is moving fast considering that GMC has just unveiled the Hummer EV in October.

Notably, the prototype has coverings on some parts and that should tell that the pickup remains a work in progress. But the Hummer EV already functional is significant enough, according to CNET. At the very least, the latest report is saying that GMC will be rolling out as promised - the chance is high that its anticipated arrival will not be delayed.

The Hummer EV will hit the market in 2021 and GMC said this is for the Edition 1 variant that will sell starting at $112,595. The plan is for the other trims to debut in the following years and they will come at a relatively more affordable sticker price.

It is the most high-end model, however, that excites the Hummer crowd. GMC already teased that the electric pickup will be packed with jaw-dropping features such as CrabWalk that allows maneuvering on a tight space and Super Cruise, which is the Hummer EV's version of semi-autonomous driving.

The hulking truck is also tipped to get a powerful battery-powered motor, which will allow an acceleration of zero to 60mph in just three seconds. And the same powerhouse will juice up the Hummer EV to reach 350 miles of range per charge.

On the aesthetic side, the Hummer EV is sure to showcase its rough and sexy DNA. It will come with removable roof panels that promise extreme coolness both in looks and functions.

In fact, the automaker gave an assurance that the Hummer EV when it becomes available will be "totally unique." That means GMC will not deploy the truck with features that are identical to the other GMC vehicles, according to Car Buzz.

The Hummer EV platform, for instance, was exclusively developed for the electric pickup and the provided images from GMC seemed to confirm that the upcoming truck will boast an identity of its own. It is expected too that GMC will make the big push on its Ultium battery technology with the rollout of the 2022 Hummer EV to eventually make the energy pack the leading industry standard.
