There is little doubt that Marvel fans were intrigued when it was revealed that Christian Bale would be joining the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. After all, the Academy Award winner was confirmed to be playing the new main villain in the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe flick, although the character's identity was not revealed. Luckily, Bale's role has finally been announced, and it could mean a terrifying thing for the God of Thunder.
Christian Bale's casting in Thor: Love and Thunder was somehow confirmed by Tessa Thompson back in March when she stated that the Batman Begins actor would be playing the villain in the sequel. However, Disney and Marvel Studios chose not to make it official then. Nevertheless, that didn't stop fans from speculating on who Bale will be playing in the fourth Thor film.
Thor: Love and Thunder got a major update at the recent Disney Investor Day where it was confirmed that Christian Bale is officially joining the cast of the Marvel Cinematic Universe sequel. It was also revealed that the Ford vs. Ferrari star would play the villainous Gorr the God Butcher opposite Chris Hemsworth's God of Thunder.
The idea of Gorr the God Butcher joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe is an interesting one considering he was one of the options fans initially thought for Christian Bale. However, some reasoned out that the MCU might not bring in the character due to Gorr's obvious religious and potentially blasphemous ties. Nevertheless, it looks like the MCU is ready to introduce a character who seeks out and murders gods.
In the comic books, Gorr decides the gods couldn't exist after losing his mother, mate, and children. This leads to him being cast out of his tribe. Interestingly, Gorr discovers that gods do exist, but they choose not to help people, which enrages Gorr and makes him decide to go after the deities.

If Gorr the God Butcher is going to appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, there is a good chance that his epic fight with the God of Thunder will be depicted in the film. We won't tell you how this battle ends, but it is something to truly look forward to in 2022.
Thor: Love and Thunder will be directed by Taika Waititi and star Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tessa Thompson, Chris Pratt, and Christian Bale. The film will also bring back Jaimie Alexander as Lady Sif and is currently scheduled for release on May 6, 2022.
