Outlander fans continuously experience the apparent "droughtlander" as the release date for the sixth season remains unclear. But, despite this, publications keep on sharing new details and information about the show, as well as its series leads, Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe.

Cheat Sheet recently reported that the pair had a "chemistry test" to see their actual connection on screen. Executives and heads, especially the showrunner, then shared that their test was what sealed them into getting the characters.

Speaking to Collider, Ronald D. Moore described the screen test as the "final moment" for the two celebrities. They became certain of Heughan and Balfe as their "on-screen camera chemistry" was apparent.

Later on, the showrunner shared the difficulties they experienced finding the right individuals playing Outlander's Jamie and Claire. He said that they all thought it would be more difficult to find the ideal actor for Jamie's character than Claire's but, the case was different during the casting process.

Moore explained that there are tons of "smart, 20th-century British women" today. Hence, there would be no challenges in finding the right actress. On the other hand, Jamie's character is a Scottish "heroic figure," making it quite challenging to find the "king of men."

But, upon receiving Sam Heughan's audition tape, the executives "knew right away" that he was the "perfect fit." Then, he became the first cast member of Starz's Outlander.

Meanwhile, the heads found out that it was "tricky" to find the ideal star for Claire's role. Ronald D. Moore shared that they were trying to find a "very special quality," adding that the actress should be a "capable interesting person," who had to be a perfect fit for Sam Heughan, as well.

When Caitriona Balfe learned about the role, she, reportedly, sent in her self-made audition tape. It immediately caught the showrunner's eye, causing her to get to the screen chemistry test.

Moore revealed that they were already "pretty certain" that she was the one. But, they became even more "convinced" after seeing Balfe and Heughan on the chemistry test.

Outlander will soon return for its sixth season on Starz in 2021. However, no one knows yet when this will exactly be. But, series lead Sam Heughan previously teased that they were already "gearing up" for the filming and shooting, according to the Daily Express.

As for the cast members who will reprise their roles, Caitriona Balfe will join Heughan for the next installment. Other major actors, including Sophie Skelton and Richard Rankin, who play the roles of Brianna and Roger, respectively, will, also, return for Season 6.
