Prince William had a secret meeting with Carole Middleton, the mother of Kate Middleton, before he asked his longtime love's hand in marriage.

Kate's mother apparently asked to sit down with the second in line to the throne because she was worried and "jittery" about her daughter's future. At that time, William and Kate have been dating for several years but he still hasn't popped that very important question.

Royal author Katie Nicholl, however, stated in the book Kate: The Future Queen, that William assured Carole that he will marry Kate and that he wants to raise their children together as a happy family.

As the Cambridges will celebrate their 10-year wedding anniversary this 2021, it looks like William made good on his promise to his mother-in-law. But their relationship goes back to the early 2000s when William and Kate first started dating in college.

In 2007, Kate and William briefly broke up amid the pressures of the royal spotlight but he apparently made things right with his future wife. Nicholl said that William also promised Kate that they will get married and have kids but it will happen at the right time. Kate agreed to get back together with William and waited until he was ready to finally walk down the aisle.

Now, after two decades together, Kate and William are slowly becoming the pillars of the royal family. In 2020, the couple has proven themselves to be worthy public servants in the service of the Queen and the Crown as they continued to fulfill their royal duties even during the lockdown and the threats of COVID-19.

On top of their work, Kate and William are also raising three beautiful kids who will be the future of the royal family. According to Us Weekly, the Cambridge children -- Prince George, 7, Princess Charlotte, 5, and Prince Louis, 2 -- will be joining more royal engagements with their parents for 2021.

Meanwhile, as the United Kingdom has been placed under their third nationwide lockdown this January, the Cambridges are safely isolating back at Anmer Hall in Norfolk. Sources said that Kate and William have decided that they will not return to Kensington Palace "in the foreseeable future" as COVID-19 cases are still spiking in London.

Kate and William will go back to their routine of homeschooling George and Charlotte since all schools are shut down for the next five weeks. The couple also plans to return to doing video calls to limit their travels outside of their house.
