The first half of Lucifer season 5 ended with the unexpected arrival of God (Dennis Haysbert). He was often mentioned by the titular character (Tom Ellis) since the beginning of the series, but he didn't make an appearance. Now that he showed up, their father-son relationship will be further explored.

In a recent interview with Comic Book Resources, co-showrunner Joe Henderson shared what are their plans for God in the second half of Lucifer season 5. He noted they didn't what the character to come down and start giving answers about his true intentions regarding his arrival.

Henderson said that God has been considered the "outside force and unknowable force" throughout the series. Now, Lucifer Morningstar may finally accept that God is not the enemy -- he's just trying to do the right thing as a father to his son.

However, Henderson also made it clear that there's a "ping-ponging between thoughts" and the titular character is frustrated why God can't tell him things. This is something that will be addressed in the next episodes of Lucifer season 5 -- including how their relationship will evolve.

Furthermore, the co-showrunner said that God's presence is more of a "father story" in the second half. He wasn't brought to the series just to be the "traditional Big Bad," as his arrival is meant for something else. The character needs to work on certain things with Lucifer.

Meanwhile, there is speculation that God left Heaven as he wanted Lucifer to be the next ruler of the Silver City. He could stay for a few more episodes in Lucifer season 5 so he could spend more time with his son and prepare him to take over his position.

Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but if it's true, this means that he'll have to be away from his lover, Chloe Decker (Lauren German) again. The two have been through a lot and has dealt with celestial events. Their relationship might be tested again now that God shows up in the picture.

Elsewhere in the second half, someone will learn a "thing or two about denial." Chloe is the top candidate here, given that she's been on a "denial stage" when she discovered Lucifer's true identity. She may likely uncover something and may deal with such things again.

The official release date of the second half of Lucifer season 5 remains unknown as of this writing. The first eight episodes are available on Netflix.
