Matt Damon has been unsuccessful in repairing the strained friendship between Joaquin Phoenix and Casey Affleck, a new report claimed. The source also stated that Matt's actions are driven by a desire for peace and financial gain.

“Matt is thinking about the future, and he’s focused on the amazing opportunities that could arise if Joaquin and Casey finally put their beef aside and makeup,” the informant, Matt's colleague, told In Touch Weekly.

Casey, the brother of Matt's closest friend, was once friends with Joaquin, who is 49. In 1995, the two encountered each other on the "To Die For" set and quickly developed a close friendship. At one point, they resided in the same building in New York City and even acquired identical tattoos while on vacation in Italy. Summer Phoenix, the sibling of the actor who starred in Signs, was married to Casey for nine years, from 2006 to 2017.

In a November 2019 interview with Vanity Fair, the "Joker" star stated that he had not spoken to his former friend in "many years."

“My sister and him divorced,” the "Napoleon" actor disclosed to the outlet. “And I haven’t spoken directly to him or indirectly in a long time. Three or four years.”

"I'm Still Here" was the most recent work they collaborated on, a mockumentary film directed by Casey and featuring a fictionalized portrayal of Joaquin, NBC News reported. While still married to Joaquin's sister, two women filed lawsuits against the actor, accusing him of sexual harassment on set. Casey refuted the accusations and discreetly resolved the lawsuits without acknowledging his guilt.

Joaquin denied witnessing any harassment during the filming; however, their relationship was not the same afterward and has not improved in the intervening years.

As the insider continued, "Matt wants to fix this and he wants to do it soon." Even though Matt has known Joaquin and Casey for 35 years, his optimism is his fatal weakness. Unfortunately, this isn't an easy repair.

Matt and Ben's new studio, Artists Equity, has had an effect on Matt's demeanor. When it comes to leaving a lasting impression, he's all about connecting with others and creating partnerships in the workplace.

The 54-year-old protagonist of "Good Will Hunting" is eager to have his friend Casey reconcile with Joaquin. In recent years, both actors have experienced a significant increase in their careers, receiving Academy Awards for Best Actor: Joaquin for Joker and Casey for Manchester by the Sea.

Matt, who is also a prominent producer, is enthusiastic about the prospect of combining their respective talents to achieve box office success.

“Matt and George Clooney are about to make another "Ocean’s" movie with Casey. They would love for Joaquin to be involved,” confirmed the source. “And naturally, Matt has wanted to work with Joaquin for many years. That became almost impossible for Matt to make happen after Joaquin and Casey’s initial falling out several years ago.”
