After months apart, Prince Harry and Meghan are so desperate to repair their marriage that pals say they've bought a luxurious Portugal hideaway as a last resort.
King Charles removed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex from Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, but they have preserved their European footing by apparently buying a $4 million holiday house on the Iberian Peninsula, The Economic Times reported.
"This is a strategic move in many ways," a well-placed source tattled to GLOBE Magazine. "Not only are they looking for a way to put some life back in their marriage, they're also on a mission to save their royal titles.”
"And being closer to England is a key part of that plan,” the insider added. "Harry's goal is to mend fences with his family and be able to spend more time in England, but in the meantime the hope is that having this place in Portugal will give him and Meghan a chance to reconnect and rekindle their romance after a period of stress and busy schedules.”
"They've fallen into a bit of a rut, with less couple time than they would have liked, and they're eager to break free from their routine and enjoy the freedom of being together without the constant media scrutiny in California," the informant continued.
Britain's 75-year-old king and his successor, Prince William, 42, have seriously considered stripping the Sussexes of their titles since they left their royal duties in 2020 to move to California and land big-bucks agreements.
However, GLOBE Magazine reported that the 40-year-old red-haired rebel prince has been making major efforts to return to the royal fold, including multiple solo trips back to England. Sources said he believes he needs to kiss up more in person to salvage his status.
"Harry's aiming to be over in England even more in the coming months," a snitch spilled. "Ideally, he'd love to spend half his time there, but Meghan would never go for that."
While her husband goes across the pond, the 43-year-old former “Suits” actress stays at their Montecito estate with their children, Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3, as per PageSix.
The couple has been separated for at least 21 days amid allegations that their marriage is crumbling.
"It's pretty obvious Meghan cares more about being Queen of Hollywood than anything else these days but, by all accounts, she's still keen to hang on to their royal titles," the spy dished.
The insider called buying a Portuguese villa a "compromise" to acquire more face time with the royal family.
"Harry has been talking about wanting to buy another property back home in England now that they don't have Frogmore, but rather than force the issue he's agreed to this place in Portugal," the source said. "It's just a short flight to London so Harry can make quick trips home to handle business while Meghan and the kids stay back in Portugal."
According to the insider, henpecked Harry hopes the demanding duchess would visit Britain soon after Queen Elizabeth's burial in September 2022.
"He wants to be able to bring Meghan and his kids back to see his family," an insider said.
The insider insisted that he appealed the British government's decision to deny him and his family publicly sponsored police protection in England.
Meanwhile, the source added, "Portugal offers them the perfect blend of security, privacy and adventure. If this doesn't help their marriage, it's likely nothing will."
