The Xiaomi Mi A2 is expected to become available in India, a new region after the device was unveiled in Europe last month. This will be the latest Android One smartphone to be launched in the region and will be sold exclusively by Amazon India.
The Aug. 8 launch hardly comes as a surprise for most folks in India since there were already posters teasing its release. According to Gizmo China, the pre-order page for the Xiaomi Mi A2 also briefly went live, revealing some of the device’s features as well as the price.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 is available in three variants although not all will be available. The 4 GB RAM and 32 GB is not expected to come out in India, and only the 6 GB RAM and 128 GB ROM seem sure of becoming available.
As for the other variant, the only thing indicated on the Amazon product page is that the device variant will have 64 GB of storage. Concerning the price ($326), the SRP is a far cry from how much the 6 GB 128 GB ROM version was sold in the European market. But there are possible scenarios for such.
One is that the cost may have dwindled because the device would be manufactured in India. This means a reduction in tax and importation costs, justifying the lower suggested retail price. Aside from that, it could also be due to a user error.
Either way, the most important thing is that the device is all set to make its debut in the Indian market. Aside from the poster, Xiaomi VP Manu Kumar Jain also confirmed on Twitter its imminent launch via Twitter and priced at $255.
Aside from the RAM and ROM options, the Xiaomi Mi A2 will sport a 5.99-inch LCD screen and run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 SoC. It will have a main 12 MP + 20 MP dual camera, both with f/1.8 aperture and LED flash and a 20 MP front-facing selfie-shooter according to GSM Arena said.
Other supporting features for the Xiaomi Mi A2 include the device being dual-SIM ready, coming with a rear-mounted fingerprint reader for biometric security and a non-removable Li-Ion 3,000 mAh battery with fast-charging support.
Based on the hardware and specs, there is no question that the Xiaomi Mi A2 is another device that offers a lot of spunk at a fairly reasonable price. Although there were omissions such as the removal of the 3.5 mm jack and a microSD card slot for expandable storage, this is one device that will appeal to folks looking for a top phone on a set budget.
