Xiaomi is expected to officially launch its Poco sub-brand with the Xiaomi Poco F1 at the top of the list. The new line should offer the smartphone consumer market another viable option as far as reliable phones retailing at affordable prices, a practice the Chinese smartphone manufacturer has been known for.

This time around, it hopes that the Xiaomi Poco F1 can do the same. With upcoming devices such as the OnePlus 6 and Honor 10 out, Xiaomi hopes that the upcoming handset will gain attention – particularly because of its low price. But above anything else, buyers will want to know what makes the new smartphone special and worthy of consideration.

From afar, the Xiaomi Poco F1 is a dead ringer for the popular Xiaomi Mi 8. But beneath all the aesthetics, there are notable differences between the two.

Sporting a 6.18-inch display screen, the Poco F1 makes use of an IPS LCD screen instead of an S-AMOLED display that the Mi 8 totes. It also comes with a wider notch, something that houses both the selfie and IR camera. At the back, the device is fitted with a polycarbonate shell where a vertical dual camera and fingerprint scanner can be found, Gizmo China said.

With the aesthetics covered, the power from within is what matters to most smartphone buyers. The Xiaomi Poco F1 is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset supported by liquid cooling technology. This is expected to help improve the device’s performance, particularly when intensive tasks are made. A large 4,000 mAh battery will help keep the phone juiced up, something that also supports Quick Charge 3.0.

The Xiaomi Poco F1 is expected to come with a dual rear camera (12 MP + 5 MP) and a 20 MP front-facing shooter. The phone is likely to come with MIUI 10 on top of Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, GSM Arena said.

As far as the RAM and ROM support, the Poco F1 is believed to be coming in three choices: 6 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, 6GB RAM + 128 GB ROM, and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM. The 6GB RAM combos will be available in Russo red, steel blue, graphite black and gradient colors while the 8 GB option will have almost the same shades except for the red one which will be replaced by armoured (Kevlar).

Official pricing for the Xiaomi Poco F1 phone remains unknown. The word out is that the base model could be priced starting at $313 with the top-end model (8 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM) carrying a suggested retail price of $356.
