In what hardly came as a surprise, the Xiaomi Poco F1 is now officially out in the open. The smartphone was unveiled in India, becoming the cheapest handset one could get equipped with a powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset.
The launch of the Xiaomi Poco F1 is expected to crowd the OnePlus 6 and Honor 10, two of the devices carrying the same processor but at a higher price. According to BBC, the entry of the Xiaomi Poco F1 into the fray could very well spark a price war.
But aside from the Snapdragon 845 SoC, the Xiaomi Poco F1 obviously has more to offer. On the outside, the device sports a 6.18-inch IPS LCD screen that offers up to 500-nits of brightness and a high contrast ratio of 1500:1. Like most handsets, the display screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass. The display also features a notched housing the front-facing camera, infrared lens, infrared lighting, proximity sensor and earpiece. At the back is the usual rear-mounted fingerprint sensor for biometric security.
Under the hood, supporting the Snapdragon 845 SoC will be a copper heat sink to help dissipate heat. It also comes with “LiquidCool technology” to prevent overheating and help boost phone performance. Other components include up to 8 GB of LDDR4X RAM and up to 256 GB UFC 2.1 of internal storage.
For actual RAM and ROM options, there will be three choices: 6 GB RAM + 64 GB ROM, 6 GB RAM + 128 GB ROM and 8 GB RAM + 256 GB ROM. The price for each is pegged at $300, $343 and $415 respectively.
Responsible for storing power is a huge 4,000 mAh battery that supports Quick Charge 3.0. Battery life will vary depending on use (i.e. 8 hours for gaming, 6 hours for FHD video playback, 31 hours of talk time and up to 15 days of standby time. The phone will be equipped with a customized MIUI on top of the Android 8.1 Oreo OS out of the box.
The Xiaomi Poco F1 will sport a dual 12 MP + 5 MP main camera featuring Dual Pixel Autofocus, dual LED flash, and real-time AI photography. Up front will be a 20 MP selfie-shooter. Both cameras are pretty similar to the Xiaomi Mi 8, another phone in the Chinese company’s fold that has created raves.
As most, the device will come with the usual connectivity options (i.e. dual VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C) and the usual 3.5 mm audio jack. To complement gaming or media entertainment, the Xiaomi Poco F1 comes with Dirac HD Sound together with dual Smart PA to ensure media entertainment is amply backed with great audio, Gizmo China said.
