A few days ago, a known Samsung technology insider, Ice Universe, wrote on Twitter that Apple's AirPods 2 is "definitely" coming out this year. All users are all ears on the upcoming audio accessory since its first-gen was first introduced in September 2016, but it seems that the rumor might be true as newly leaked photos of the second-gen AirPods have been making rounds online.
An unknown Twitter user named Mr. White (@laobaiTD) posted two photos on Twitter showing dozens of stacked AirPods cases, but he didn't write anything on the post. However, another Twitter user asked him about the earbuds and told him that those are not yet available, which convinced many people that those photos are Apple's AirPods upgrade that the company has yet to release.
As per BGR, Mr. White isn't as famous as the other tech and gadget leakers, but his leaks were always real almost all the time. Apple is still silent about the upcoming release of the AirPods 2, and there are no further details about its performance although previous reports suggested that the design would be the same.
The innards though will reportedly be more advanced as it will come with wellness and biometric sensors. It's going to be water-resistant as well, with better range, and great battery life. Its new audio chip will work best with Siri, Apple's digital assistant.
Since hitting the market, the AirPods have been widely famous worldwide, and Apple even ran out of stock last month although the tech giant replenished it with new batches of the first-gen Bluetooth earbuds. Users are also expecting that the AirPods 2 will be compatible with Apple's wireless charging mat called AirPower.
The AirPods, iPhone, and Apple Watch are expected to wirelessly charge through the AirPower. Unfortunately, Apple remains silent about the details about it despite being announced last year alongside the AirPods 2.
A previous report also suggested that the AirPods 2 has been cleared by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) certification process. This could mean that the leaks from Ice Universe and Mr. White might be true and that the earbuds upgrade is making their way before the year ends.
The AirPods have a physical user interface to identify taps and in-ear placement. These can also work on any device that supports Bluetooth 4.0 and higher, including the Android devices. Tested by many users, Apple's Bluetooth earbuds are unlikely to fall from the ears when they're worn. Despite its high price, it turned that it's cheaper than the other wireless earbuds such as the Samsung Icon X and Bragi Dash.
