Players are noticeably excited to finally get their hands on the awaited sequel to Square Enix and Disney's collaboration RPG. With less than a month to go before it officially launches on Jan. 25, 2019, gamers are eager to learn about any secrets the title might have in store next month. Therefore, to drum up some more hype, the developers threw in some extra fan service to ensure that fans have something more to look forward to. The new trailer reportedly reveals the second playable character for "Kingdom Hearts 3."

For those that prefer to avoid spoilers before the game hits store shelves next month, please be advised that the information from here on might reveal some minor story plots. People who followed the development of the sequel closely might already have a hint. Game Rant notes that in 2017, Tetsuya Nomura, the director of the title, confirmed that there is another playable character when the game launches. Many rumors were posted online, but the video finally showcases the return of Riku.

Feedback regarding his return was apparently met with positive feedback. Sora's friend is a veteran of the franchise, so much so that it makes sense to make him playable in "Kingdom Hearts 3." A quick look back at the lore establishes him as an important figure in the story. Both heroes grew up as friends in Destiny Island and fought against the Heartless in the series. While the Final Battle trailer did not specifically mention anything about him being playable, a segment of the short clip shows gameplay of the player in control of Riku.

This is not the first time that the aforementioned protagonist became playable in the franchise. In fact, gamers took him for a spin as well in Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Meanwhile, fans of the series will undoubtedly notice that the trailer teases even more new stuff. An article from IGN points out the appearance of worlds that were never seen before. These include San Fransokyo from Big Hero 6, Arendelle from Frozen, and some new locations that are part of the core story.

Square Enix confirmed that "Kingdom Hearts 3" completed its development last month. Unfortunately, some reports claim that leaked copies of the final game have been distributed online. Gamers and fans who have waited patiently for this sequel are encouraged to stay away from these bootleg copies unless they want to ruin the experience before the game officially launches.
