Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will finally have improved dual-SIM support, according to the latest rumors about the smartphone device. This is after a code was recently added to the open source foundation of Android as seen on the internet.

In an article published by Phone Arena, the information about Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL having a new code was seen in the Android Open Source Project web page by XDA Developers. Currently, the Pixel 2 and Pixel 3 series phones are carrying both an eSIM and a SIM card slot.

For those who don't what is an eSIM that is found in Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, it is a chip put inside the phone that takes the place of a SIM card. It also means an embedded SIM.

Based on the Android Open Source Project, a Google employee indicated that the Android Q, which is what Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are currently using, can support Dual SIM, Dual Standby or Dual SIM, Dual Active if the device and the carrier can support it. It is rumored that the Dual SIM, Dual Standby is being tested on Pixel 3 in preparation for the Pixel 4.

If Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will have the Dual SIM, Dual Standby feature, both the SIM card slot and the eSIM can be active at the same time. With this, users can use the voice call feature on one SIM and use the other SIM for texting purposes.

The 2017 and 2018 Pixel models, the predecessors of Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, are using Dual SIM, Single Standby. This means that users cannot use the eSIM and the SIM card slot at the same time as only one should be active.

An article published in TechRadar explained that the change of dual SIM features on Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL could finally cancel out the disadvantage of the phone line. This also means that users can finally have more reasons to buy their product over the other one.

Besides the better dual SIM feature, Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 CL is rumored to sport the Snapdragon 855. This will be paired with 6GB of RAM, which can be up from 4GB from the Pixel 3 phones.

Strategy Analytics previously said that the Pixel is the fastest growing smartphone brand in the U.S. With the improved dual SIM feature of Google Pixel 4 and 4 XL, their growth might have a huge increase.
