The month of love has already ended, but it seems as though it is just starting for the American personalities Rachel Lindsay and Bryan Abasolo. Lindsay can't help but express her joy to her followers and friends by posting a new emoji that represents her love through her social media account.
The post, which features an emoji of a white man and black woman holding each other's hands, is shared on Instagram with the caption, "There's never been an emoji to represent interracial couples like Bryan and me. But there's gonna be, thanks to @tinder. It's about time because we need this to #RepresentLove in all its beautiful forms."
Ever since emojis were created to represent different things, there is still not even one that serves interracial relationships. That changed after Tinder, a dating app, campaigned for a "representation of love" that will cover all gender, race, and skin colors last year.
With over 52,000 people who participated in the signature campaign, Unicode, the global organization responsible for creating emojis, answered their plea. Just recently, the organization released the very first set of artwork that would represent interracial couples, as reported by USA Today.
Lindsay and Abasolo met each other through the US TV series ABC's The Bachelor. It was through the series where the two shared memories, became close and created a bond. Eventually, Lindsay and Abasolo became the first couple to represent interracial love ever since the start of the franchise.
Lindsay, being an African-American, opened up how she was pressured to choose a black man to become her partner on the dating show. But despite the expectation and custom of the world, she decided just to enjoy what she had that time and follow the desire of her heart instead.
Lindsay said, "I'm not going to pick somebody because they look a certain way." She said her goal is not just to find someone, but more on to be with a person that she will be going to spend the rest of her life with. "I can't let color dictate that," she added.
Meanwhile, the couple revealed through E! News that they want their wedding to be as private as possible. With only their close friends and families invited, the ceremony will be held in the Caribbean away from the public's eyes.
The couple explained that they choose to make it that way so they can be free to plan everything they want their special day to be. Besides, working with a televised production could take "the emotion out," which is the risk they are not willing to make.
