Tesla is one of the most famous electric car manufacturers. The company has already created a vast variety of models. Now, the electric car company giant is going to launch a new Supercharger system.
The new Supercharger system by Tesla is capable of adding up to 1,000 miles to distance per hour of charging. This initiative will move the bar a little closer to the public acceptance of the electric vehicles.
One of the problems of the consumers is that it would take a whole lot of time to recharge an electric vehicle, especially on a long trip. In able to address the issue, Tesla is going to launch a V3 Supercharger.
The system of the Supercharger will allow an additional 1,000 miles of range per hour of charging. The V3 Supercharging has started with a beta site, at the San Francisco Bay Are. It will then be available across the United States on the coming weeks or months, according to Design News.
The V3 will be using a completely new architecture. It will be equipped with a 1 megawatt (MW) power cabinet. It can support peak charging rates up to 250 kilowatts per car. With this, it would allow Tesla Model 3 Long Range, for example, to recover up to 75 miles with 5 minutes of charging, according to Electrek.
As follows, each of the 1-MW cabinets is able to support up to four cars at a time. Each of the cars can charge up to its maximum rate. According to Tesla, "With these significant technical improvements, we anticipate the typical charging time at a V3 Supercharger will drop to around 15 minutes."
Tesla also announced that the company will unlock 145-kW maximum charging capability at its Supercharging stations in the upcoming weeks. For the high rate of charging able to happen, a liquid-cooled charging cable will allow charging the vehicles without overheating the equipment. It is similar to the liquid-cooled cables that issue by the Electrify America for its high-rate charging network.
Furthermore, another reason for the reduction of the time spent when charging is that the Supercharger has a new software feature. "Tesla is rolling out a new feature called On-Route Battery Warmup. Now, whenever you navigate to a Supercharger station, your vehicle will intelligently heat the battery to ensure you arrive at the optimal temperature to charge, reducing average charge times for owners by 25%." The update can be sent online to all of Tesla's vehicles because the change is in the vehicle software.
