Reports circulating online seem to indicate that AirPower, Apple's wireless charging mat, might be released soon. Read on for more details.
An image of the highly anticipated AirPower wireless charging mat has appeared on the Apple Australia website, BGR reported. The image showed the alleged mat charging AirPods and the AirPods Wireless Charging Case on the left side, and an iPhone XS on the right side. It was initially spotted by Twitter user Michael Bateman (via MacRumors).
The photo simply indicates that Apple hasn't scrapped the idea of a wireless charging mat despite rumors of severe overheating problems. This image alone, which was actually unearthed from a source code on the AirPods page, confirms Apple is still planning on releasing it, although at an unknown date.
It is worth noting that the new photo appears to be based on an existing product shot, The Verge reported. The older photo was made for the AirPower, which was first announced in 2017. The iPhone XS' background image on the newer photo, however, was introduced with the latest iPhones, which may indicate continued development.
The Wall Street Journal also reported that Apple, after much trouble, finally approved the AirPower for production. The Cupertino tech company, however, doesn't announce new products unless they've already begun production.
If all things go well, it may be likely that Apple fans will get their hands on an Apple-branded wireless charging mat within the next few months. Famed Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo did say that Apple will be releasing the anticipated device within the first half of 2019, which means now until June.
What about the Apple Watch?
Fans might think the AirPower will only charge iPhones and AirPods because those are the only devices placed on top of it in the photo, but that's not true. While the photo didn't show the Apple Watch on top, the photo was clearly meant to show that Apple's still planning on releasing it to the public.
Apple initially claimed that the AirPower will be able to charge the Apple Watch. Last year, AirPower was shown on stage while charging an iPhone and an Apple Watch. Recently, even more, evidence was found.
iOS developer Guilherme Rambo, known for finding clues hidden in Apple's source code, found some evidence that AirPower will be able to charge Apple Watches. Those who worried about this need not worry at all.
This latest report about Apple products comes in line with a slew of surprise reveals well ahead of the March 25 event where Apple is set to announce a new streaming service. It seems Apple wants to make it big this year.
