A growing number of iPad Pro users are complaining about a major problem that can either render the device unusable or difficult to use properly. Read on for more details.

A number of 2017 and 2018 iPad Pro owners are reporting various issues related to the display, MacRumors reported. They said the screen stutters, resulting in unregistered key presses and problems scrolling. The complaints can be found in Apple Support pages and the MacRumors forums.

One certain 2017 iPad Pro owner said that his/her tablet had screen problems from day one. He/she said the iPad Pro does not respond to touches intermittently, and will randomly stop responding anywhere between one to 30 seconds before functioning again.

The problem, the owner said, is most obvious when typing letters. Imagine typing a sentence only to realize that, after finishing the whole line or paragraph, that some letters or even whole words would be missing. This, the complainant said, is "infuriating."

Other owners

Other iPad Pro owners, either the 2018 iPad Pro or older, agreed with the complainant and said they are also encountering the same problems and more.

One owner of the 2017 iPad Pro with LTE thought it was related to the tempered glass protector. The owner said the issue persisted even after the protector was taken off.

Another person who owned an older iPad model said his iPad has this issue as well. He said the problem has been happening "across all year and models of iPad Pros," and has only gotten worse in iDevices running in iOS 12.

One recent complaint his 12.9-inch 2018 iPad Pro, which was bought in December of 2018, had the same problems.

The owner said he did all the resets and reloads, and also tried removing the iPad cover to no avail. He said he then sent it to Apple for repair, but the tech company "could not find any problems."

No fix yet

One of MacRumors' readers who informed the news outlet of the issue, Roger, said his 2018 iPad Pro has exactly the same issues. He said Apple replaced his iPad Pro, but the replacement unit also had the same problems.

The reasons for the screen stuttering problems are unknown as of the moment. It is unclear whether this is a software issue or a problem with the hardware. Some issues began appearing on iOS 11.3, but have persisted until iOS 12.2. As such, it's unclear what caused the problems.

MacRumors says it's difficult to conclude that all 2017 and 2018 iPad Pro models face the same problems. All affected owners are advised to contact Apple or to take their affected iPad Pro to an Apple Store or Authorized Repair Shop for help.
