Michelle Obama may have subtly dissed Donald Trump while talking about Oprah Winfrey and politics, implying he is not "viable" to be the "country's leader."
She was being interviewed for her 2018 Becoming memoir that had sold more copies than any other published book in that year, breaking the record in a mere fifteen days. This was during her appearance in Atlanta, Georgia's State Farm Arena Saturday.
Gayle King, the host at the question and answer run, had asked whether the writer had any thoughts on running for the top position in the land.
The former first lady said that it does not necessarily follow that one would be "president" material just because one has a "great" television show. She went on to say, using Winfrey as an example, that though "she's nice" and has a good "TV show" it does not mean the latter should elected to the highest position in the land.
She believed that people who wish to enter politics should "want" it and have it as "their passion." Getting into the political arena should not be just because one likes to be in it.
Obama added, saying things did not work that way. She also said further that being elected to the position is "hard" but also "dangerous," there being no "easy answers" to the "stuff" of the presidential office.
She said that the highest leadership position necessitated "intelligence" and an "understanding" of "history." Then she asked not for all she said to be "turned into the shade." The former lawyer also believes the position of United States President demands "temperament" as well as "patience."
She explained that if she was being asked to run, her consideration would be on how it would affect people around the "president," adding that the weight of the responsibility would be "heavy." She reflected that for her own daughters, Malia and Sasha, to have gone through it all and survived all of eight years, she considers them "champions." She admitted being "grateful" for that.
Michelle had not named names during all of this, but it appeared clear to the audience who she was referring to that should not have been in the White House. As for reentering into the world of politics, there are some who are hoping she would be doing so.
But credible sources have confirmed that Michelle will stick to what she has shared in the past about not going down the road, back into the White House. This interview was a first where she has clearly referenced President Donald Trump in her comments.
Barack's wife even pointed out that anyone who wanted to be in the position should take a more interest in it instead of treating it like just a passing phase. She even went as far as to point out that though people in such leadership positions need to be deeply entrenched in the responsibilities that went with it.
She believed that this stance is in stark contrast to the reality that the people of the United States have witnessed in many politicians. Such have been glaringly "careless" in what they say and do, without any accountability for how their behavior may impact the country.
