On May 14, OnePlus revealed the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro. The two new models succeed the OnePlus 6T that was released last year in October. But how do they compare to each other and which model should you buy?
For the last three years, OnePlus managed to dominate the value flagship space by releasing phones considered way better than its rivals. This year, things took a different turn - the Chinese company took a bolder step by announcing the OnePlus 7 Pro, along with the more modest OnePlus 7. The latter's design is a reminiscent of last year's OnePlus 6T but it comes with some of the underlying hardware from the 7 Pro.
Perhaps the feature that stands out the most is the 7 Pro's display. It's by far the largest display ever on a OnePlus phone at 6.7 inches, has a 90Hz refresh rate, and is the most pixel-dense. The 7 doesn't have these additions - it retains the 6.4-inch AMOLED display that a some screen modes and an FHD+ resolution.
The OnePlus 7 Pro, with its bigger size, obviously has a sizeable battery. It's equipped with a 4000mAh cell, while the OnePlus 7 sits with a 3700mAh battery. When it comes to charging the phone the Pro version comes with a 30-watt fast charge feature, which the company calls Warp Charge, first introduced on the OnePlus 6T McLaren edition.
Testing found that the OnePlus 7 Pro comes fully charged in approximately 80 minutes. The OnePlus 7 doesn't have a Warp Charge feature, but it does have the same Fast Charge feature as the 6T, capping at 18 watts.
Both models retain the latest chipsets from Qualcomm. OnePlus isn't releasing the OnePlus 7 with an older - or more mid-range - CPU and it's even keeping the RAM options the same.
The OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro are powered by the Snapdragon 855 chipset, with 128 GB of storage and at least 6GB of RAM. Both devices don't come with microSD expansions, which to some could affect their buying decision. But the storage is UFS 3.0, which means better read/write speeds compared to the older models.
If you want more RAM, the OnePlus 7 Pro comes with an 8GB and 12GB variant, while the OnePlus 7 is capped at 8GB. As for storage options, both go up to 256GB.
