The beloved flagship killer, which for its 2019 release will be labeled the OnePlus 7, is again set to inspire excitement in the Android realm. This is especially true for the OnePlus 7 Pro version, which its maker recently teased, will unbox boasting of a gorgeous full-screen display plus the usual specs and features befitting a hero device.
Leaks and rumors have been suggesting that the 2019 OnePlus rollout will come in three, indicating the China-based device manufacturer intends to engage Samsung and Huawei in a fierce slugfest. There will be a regular flavor that is said to pack a 6.4-inch display in 1080p resolution, a powerful camera setup, up to 256GB of storage and maximum of 8GB RAM support. This monster will fire up thanks to Snapdragon 855.
However, it is the OnePlus 7 Pro, said to debut with a 5G version, that supposedly is generating the higher level of anticipation. And rightly so as it will be the bigger beast of the line - the one that OnePlus has designed purportedly to make life difficult for the Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus and the Huawei P30 Pro.
Judging from the ad ran by OnePlus on The New York Times, it appeared the company is bent on picking up a fight with major foes. As illustrated clearly on the ad page spread, the Pro version (and likely the 5G release) is coming out sporting a full-screen display.
"No bezel. No notch. Just a better phone," the ad from OnePlus declared.
There was no mention of detailed specs and features but the included blueprint in the promo campaign indicated the OnePlus 7 Pro will hit the stores having a triple camera mechanism on the rear and a pop-up selfie shooter. The latter pretty much explains the all-screen display and the absence of a notch. Possibly too, the device will feature a metallic cooling system, again as hinted by the same ad.
In terms of sticker price, OnePlus remains mum on the actual numbers but it did say that the tag will not exceed the $2,000 mark. Yet make no mistake, while the OnePlus 7 Pro is known as a flagship killer by Android fans it will not come cheap. To be realistic, the device is now in the same territory once dominated by Apple and Samsung.
That would mean pricing beyond $1,000 as the case of both flagship models from Samsung and Huawei. It has to be noted though that the OnePlus 7 Pro is all worth the asking price. Just consider the following specs even if they remain in the zone of speculations:
- 6.7-inch 90Hz display with 3120 x 1440 resolution (19.5:9 aspect ratio)
- Snapdragon 855 SoC
- RAM: 6GB/8GB/12GB
- Internal Storage: 128GB/256GB using UFS 3.0 technology
- Camera setup: 48-megapixel (f1.5 OIS+EIS), 8-megapixel (f2.4, 3x zoom), 16-megapixel (f2.2 117-degree wide-angle) rear cameras, a 16-megapixel (f2.0) selfie camera
- 4,000mAh battery with 30W Warp Charge support
- In-display fingerprint sensor
All things said it's only a matter of days and the talks and whispers surrounding the OnePlus 7 Pro, and its siblings namely the regular OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, will either be confirmed or debunked. OnePlus said introduction time for its 2019 flagship is happening on May 14.
