When the Xiaomi Mi 9T was previewed recently, the teaser was accompanied by rumors that when it hits a specific market it will be the repackaged Redmi K20. So it came as no surprise that the Mi 9T is now launched in Europe, and the handset is practically a doppelganger of the flagship killer K20.
This latest revelation from the Chinese device maker further fueled the speculations that when the device gets unwrapped in a different region, and Southeast Asia is supposedly a prime destination, it would be repurposed as the next Poco gaming handset or the Pocophone F2.
But before going to that, Android Authority said the Mi 9T from Xiaomi is undeniably the Redmi K20. It sports a bezel-free display and the same pop-up front camera first seen with the K20. The back panel is definitely a clone of the Redmi phone. It boasts of a triple rear camera setup that features a 48MP main sensor from Sony, 13MP ultra-wide shooter, and 8MP 2x telephoto snapper.
The internal storage starts at 64GB and can go as high as 256GB with no provision to extend the capacity. As for the RAM support, it's a toss between 6GB and 8GB, which on the Mi 9T will be tapped on by a Snapdragon 730 chipset. The latter serves as Xiaomi's confirmation that the handset belongs to the mid-range segment.
As mentioned, the MI 9T has an AMOLED panel that stretches 6.39-inch diagonally and delivers a Full HD+ resolution. Everything about the device will be powered by a massive 4,000mAh battery, which can be juiced up by decent 18-watt charging and not the 25-watt found on the regular Redmi K20 model.
And true to its reputation as a slayer of hero phones in terms of pricing, the Xiaomi Mi 9T will retail in most of Europe starting at approximately $340 for the base model. The top-specced variant will sell for no more than $500.
Per the report from XDA Developers, this new Xiaomi release will jump out of the box with Android Pie running the show and layered by its maker's MIUI 10 OS. There will be three finishes to choose from Glacier Blue, Carbon Black, and Red Flame.
Now going back to the rumor that the Redmi K20 will reemerge in select regions as another Xiaomi branded smartphone, the Chinese device maker remains mum on the matter. Nonetheless, the talks are spreading like wildfire that the K20 will take another name is markets like the Philippines.
It will be coming out as the follow up serving to the game-centric Pocophone, thus bearing the name Pocophone F2. When exactly this is happening though, only Xiaomi can say.
