Peaky Blinders season 5 is nearly ready for release. Director Anthony Byrne has revealed that they are getting close to complete the new installment's post-production work.
Byrne posted a photo on Instagram while working on putting the final touches of the scenes featuring Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy (as Tommy Shelby). He confirmed that they are "getting closer to the end" of their work in the editing and sound mixing studio.
Peaky Blinders season 5 wrapped up filming in January. Despite this, however, BBC has been tight-lipped about the show's premiere date.
However, actor Harry Kinton (as Finn), stated in a Q & A with fans over social media that the show is expected to return to the small screen this fall or around September or October. The young man also said that he's quite excited for the release since his character has grown up in Peaky Blinders season 5.
Details to Peaky Blinders season 5 have been a tightly-guarded secret. What's certain, however, is that the new installment will take place after 1929 and amid the financial crash in the world's economy. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight confirmed in an interview with Birmingham Mail that the Great Depression period and the rise of fascism would be vital to the storyline.
Peaky Blinders left off season 4 with Tommy becoming a full-fledged politician. The criminal mastermind has gained more power than ever before, and his criminal operations have even reached the United States.
His brother, Arthur (played by Paul Anderson), will also gain some connections in parliament that would further solidify the power of the Shelby family. There will be more access to cover and opportunities to unfold as Tommy uses his position to manipulate what is around him.
Peaky Blinders season 5 might also further explore Tommy's mental health. Viewers will recall that the previous season saw Tommy taking a three-month hiatus to deal with the tragedies in his life.
Meanwhile, the crime family will encounter the Billy Boys from Glasglow in this growing mob war. Rumors of Al Capone figuring into the storyline has also been hatched, but Knight has confirmed this character will not appear in the new installment.
Most of the stars of Peaky Blinders will be back for the fifth season. Apart from Murphy, Anderson, and Kinton, Helen McCrory (as Aunt Polly), Sophie Rundle (as Ada Shelby), Kate Phillips (as Linda Shelby) have also reprised their roles. There will be plenty of new faces as well in Peaky Blinders season 5 with the addition of Sam Claflin as the corrupt politician Oswald Mosley and Anya Taylor-Joy, in an undisclosed role.
Peaky Blinders season 1 to 4 are currently streaming on Netflix. The fifth season will be on the platform after its run on BBC.
