Freeform's top series Siren has been renewed for a third season. The most popular show on the network, which delves on a mermaid as the main character, is coming back for more of the polyamorous relationship between Ben (played by Alex Roe) Maddie (played by Fola Evans-Akingbola) and Ryn (played by Eline Powell).
TV Line has confirmed that Siren season 3 will continue but the network has not yet set its release date. Presumably, the third season will begin its run in Spring of 2020.
Siren debuted on Freeform last March 2018 and returned a year later in January for the first half of its Siren season 2 until March 2019. The second half of the season has finally started its run last Thursday, June 13, where it has begun unraveling the unique relationship.
Eric Wald and Emily Whitesell told TV Line that because they have been teasing Ben, Maddie and Ryn's relationship since season 1, it only makes sense to finally dive down deep into this arrangement in the second half of season 2. Roe told Hollywood Life, on the other hand, that their situation will get more complicated in Siren season 2.
"Not only is it a polyamorous relationship in a society that doesn't really understand that as it is, but it's also now a polyamorous relationship with someone who is half human and half of another species," Roe said. "So, yeah, it's incredibly complicated and good for them for going for it."
Ryn, the mermaid, has always been drawn to both Ben and Maddie ever since she knew they existed in Siren. She was the first to fall in love with the two, but it took a while for Ben and Maddie to accept this new set-up.
But as much as this polyamorous relationship is confusing, fans have embraced where the show has trotted so far. Roe admitted that people had been freaked out by Siren season 2, but there have also been a good number of fans who have started a conversation about polygamy.
Roe further explained to TV Guide that Ryn doesn't regard things the same as humans; hence, their set up works for now. It remains to be seen; however, what this relationship's could lead to once the three become very familiar with each other.
Meanwhile, Siren airs a new episode on Thursday, June 20 at 8:00 p.m. Titled "All In," this episode will feature the worsening health of Elaine and the latest discovery of Helen and Rick in Bristol Cove.
