Lebron James and the LA Lakers are really working hard to make sure that the team will be stronger in the next NBA season following its disappointing feat recently.
After the team recently agreed on the blockbuster deal to sign up Anthony Davis from the New Orleans Pelicans, there are many rumors about the team's next move including pursuing a second all-star like Kemba Walker or Jimmy Butler. But recent speculation further suggests that Carmelo Anthony could come back to the team and join LeBron and Davis.
The LA Lakers is currently facing a scenario wherein they have to fill out the remaining line up with minimum deals. Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler believes the LA Lakers could possibly explore the possibility of signing up Carmelo Anthony. How LA Lakers will build its roster of players will be very interesting, especially that the public expectation for the newest BIG THREE is quite high.
According to NBA insider Chris Hayes, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade and teaming up with LeBron James and Anthony Davis are not impossible to happen. He added that Anthony could sign extension during the offseason and will play out the 2019 to 2020 season. He could then enter free agency in 2020, Hayes said.
Carmelo Anthony is a 10-time All-star NBA player. He left the Rockets in November and currently has no team. His spell in Houston Rockets only lasted for ten games with Mike D'Antoni believing the seasoned NBA star as a defensive liability. After he left Houston Rockets, he was associated with various NBA teams.
There was an initial move to the LA Lakers but it fell apart because of the team's inability to compete for a spot in the playoff. Carmelo Anthony is 35 years old and has spent so much time away from the league. But, individuals who can really create an impact on minimum salaries are difficult to find in the NBA.
Anthony could be motivated at the idea of chasing his first ever NBA championship with his friend LeBron James. Taking Carmelo Anthony could present a little risk on the part of LA Lakers, and the NBA star should make a positive effect from the team's reserve unit. But, if the team signs up Kemba Walker or Jimmy Butler, they might not have the cap flexibility to fill out the rest of the lineup with so much more than players on veteran's minimum contracts.
After trading three players away, including the first round pick, for Davis, the team may have many roster places to fill.
