Cyberpunk 2077 developer CD Projekt RED said that it currently has no plans to bring the game to the so-called PlayStation 5 or the Xbox Project Scarlett. Seeing that the game will be released early next year, a lot of people assumed that it would have a release on the next-gen consoles, particularly on Project Scarlett, which is also launching in 2020.

In an interview with Gaming Bolt at E3 2019, quest director of the game Mateusz Tomaszkiewicz said that the company is putting all its efforts to the current-gen consoles: PS4, Xbox One, and on PC. He also clarified that they're not developing a Nintendo Switch version either.

However, it may not be that surprising to hear that CD Projekt RED only wants to think about those three platforms. The developer also confirmed that there won't be an online multiplayer version either, which is pretty understandable. The company is hard at work, putting all their resources on the game's single-player content for it to come out great.

Still, it's clear the developer isn't ruling out the possibility of a Cyberpunk 2077 Project Scarlett release, and there's nothing there that suggests the developer will never bring the game to the upcoming platform.

Project Scarlett and the PlayStation 5 are already confirmed to be backwards compatible, so it is expected that Cyberpunk 2077 will play on the new consoles. CD Projekt RED may not be thinking about it now, but Cyberpunk 2077 could potentially be one of these cross-generation games.

Senior Level Designer Miles Tost talked about a possible next-gen release of Cyberpunk 2077, saying that the team we'll look at the next-gen consoles later on, but now the team's focus is on the PC and current generation release. The game isn't scheduled until next year, but it's being met with a lot of excitement, partly due to the appearance of John Wick actor Keanu Reeves, who happens to be an integral part of the game.

Of course, we are looking at what is happening in the games industry because we are part of it, and we need to always look forward," Tost said. "But at the same time, we are a studio that really focuses on the work we're doing now. So our full attention is on current-gen consoles and PC."

Cyberpunk 2077 will release on April 16th, 2020 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Meanwhile, CD Projekt Red's most recent game, The Witcher 3, is headed to Nintendo Switch.
