A new set of leaked benchmark score shows just how powerful the new AMD Ryzen 7 3800X is compared to its contemporaries. The recent Geekbench scores revealed that the Ryzen 7 3800X totally dominating the Intel Core i9-9900K.
The leaked benchmark score was shared by notable tech hardware leaker who uses the pseudonym TUM_APISAK. The benchmark score was posted on Twitter. Although it was eventually taken down, it was not before mirror images were hosted on different sites.
Both the Ryzen 7 3800X and the Core i9-9900K have 8-cores and 16-threads, putting them into the same bracket. However, there are slight differences when it comes to clock speed. The Ryzen processor has a base clock of 3.8GHz and a boost clock of 4.5GHz. On the other hand, the i9 has a base clock of 3.6GHz and a boost clock of 5GHz. Looking at these specs alone, the Core i9 clearly has the upper hand. However, the two processors tell a different story when subjected to some tests.
Based on the benchmark scores, the AMD Ryzen 7 excels in multi-core tests. However, the i9-9900K is slightly better when it comes to single-core tests. It is important to note that these benchmark scores should be taken with a grain of salt. A good score from these synthetic benchmarks does not necessarily transform into real-world performance.
There is one caveat from the leaked benchmark, though. The Ryzen 7 3800X was tested using a DDR4-2133 memory module. The third generation of Ryzen processors already supports DDR4-3200 right out of the box. Lower memory speed can limit the performance of the chip significantly.
When both processors are tested with DDR4-2133 memory, AMD can close the gap when testing single-core performance. However, when it comes to multi-core workloads, the AMD chip easily beats its Intel counterpart. What the leaked benchmark reveals is that memory speed definitely plays a significant role both in single- and multi-core tests. Whether this will translate into real-world performance is still unknown since the Ryzen 7 3800X is still unavailable in the market.
The Ryzen 7 3800X is just one of the six processors which AMD plans to release next month. This new family of processors boasts the 7nm process and are expected to go head-to-head against Intel's top of the line Core i9 and Core i7 processors. AMD is planning to release two Ryzen 9, two Ryzen 7, and two Ryzen 5 processors.
