It was through Kevin Durant's Instagram post that a lot of people learned about his decision of moving into Brooklyn Nets. The decision was a bit of a surprise although there were several rumors that the former NBA MVP has been talking to Kyrie Irving about his future decisions. What many do not know, including the general manager of Brooklyn Nets, (who happened to know that KD is coming to the team on the day he announced it) is that Irving and Durant have been planning about this even before the previous NBA season even started.
Earlier today, New York Daily News' Stefan Bondy shared that Sean Marks, the general manager of Brooklyn Nets admitted that he had not spoken to Kevin Durant prior to the announcement that the NBA MVP is coming to the Nets. According to NBC Sports, this gives some credit to the rumors that it was Kyrie Irving pushing really hard for the Nets. The report also stated that the two NBA stars had already planned to play together even before the last season of the NBA began.
At some point, both NBA stars decided that the Brooklyn Nets is the best team to play with. The challenge now to the franchise is that they will most likely have to wait a little longer, could be one season, to get Kevin Durant playing on the court for them after his torn Achilles which he got by playing Game 5 of the NBA Finals for the Golden State Warriors.
Just recently, Kevin Durant undertook a full evaluation with the performance staff and doctors of the Brooklyn Nets. During Tuesday's press conference, Sean Marks, Brooklyn Nets' general manager chose not to officially exclude the player for the upcoming season. The GM added that the team would not announce any schedule for the NBA star's recovery to the public.
Although the franchise's GM refused to exclude Kevin Durant, the public should not really expect to see him on the court any time this season. Typically, recovery from a torn Achilles takes around 9 to 12 months. In other words, the best-case scenario is that Kevin Durant could become healthy again with only several weeks left in the NBA regular season.
It would be not wise to pressure him to get back on the court and play, considering that the principal reason for his injury was because he came back too early from another injury. It can be recalled that Kevin Durant signed a $141 million four-year deal with the Nets and Brooklyn would not risk anything which concerns his recovery.
