Patrick Stewart, the star of Star Trek: Picard, is getting a new sidekick. The new cast member has been unveiled in a teaser poster for the upcoming series.

As revealed on People, former Starfleet captain Jean-Luc Picard is standing next to this new character on Star Trek: Picard. It's a dog with the emblem of the Starfleet on his collar.

The poster also shows a vineyard and some barrels of wine. This supports what has been previously reported that Star Trek: Picard will open with the captain now enjoying his retirement.

Star Trek: Picard will be set 20 years after Star Trek: Nemesis, where the character of Picard last appeared. It will also follow the events after the destruction of Romulus, which was featured in the 2009 movie reboot of Star Trek featuring Chris Pine.

But it's not just the dog who would be joining Star Trek: Picard. LeVar Burton, who worked with Stewart on their old Star Trek show as chief engineer Geordi La Forge, told CNN that he could be in this follow-up show as well.

Burton said that he expects there will be mini-reunions on Star Trek: Picard with Stewart's former cast members. There must be explanations of why he's still in touch or not in touch with his former Starfleet crew.

However, Burton won't confirm if he's in this debuting series. Stewart, on the other hand, expects that this new show will get more than one season so there will still be more episodes to cover those mini-reunions.

CBS first developed Star Trek: Picard with Alex Kurtzman and Akiva Goldsman in mid-June 2018. Plans pushed through after the executive producers convinced Stewart of his interest in starring in his show.

Stewart relayed that he wanted to be a part of Star Trek: Picard if it carried over aspects of what older viewers remember about his character, as well as present new ideas and storylines. The actor was very much involved in the development of the 10-episode series.

The actor portrayed Capt. Jean-Luc Picard for seven seasons and also starred in four movies. In 2002, he officially retired the character and wasn't expecting to be back to play him again.

"It is an unexpected but delightful surprise to find myself excited and invigorated to be returning to Jean-Luc Picard," the actor posted on his social media channels. He initially thought he'd turn down Kurtzman and Goldman, but when they sat down together to talk about the show, he was satisfied with how the executive producers answered all of his questions.

Star Trek: Picard will run on the streaming platform on CBS All Access.
