After its rather disastrous first release, Samsung was forced to recall its flagship Galaxy Fold smartphone due to issues, especially about broken screens. The South Korean tech giant is set to re-release the Galaxy Fold this September. In a rather disappointing turn of events, T-Mobile announced that it would not sell the smartphone.
In a statement, a T-Mobile spokesperson said, "T-Mobile will not carry the Galaxy Fold because we already offer customers a wide range of latest smartphones."
According to Engadget, AT&T is working with Samsung, but the company has yet to make the decision whether it will offer the Galaxy Fold in its lineup of devices.
During the early launch of the Galaxy Fold, both T-Mobile and AT&T canceled all pre-orders following Samsung's decision to delay the official launch of the foldable phone. Devices that were sent to reviewers were found to have debris inside which went through the hinge. Some devices were reported to have issues with the protective display layer, and some users removed it suspecting it was just a regular screen protector.
In order to remedy these issues, Samsung made some changes to its design. One such change extended the protective layer way above the phone's bezel in hopes that it will prevent users from taking it off. Reports also claim that Samsung improved the hinge caps of the Galaxy Fold in order to prevent debris from entering the phone.
The new Galaxy Fold's Infinity Flex Display has been extended and it is now an integral part of the display, making it hard for users to remove it. Additional reinforcements were also added in order to better protect the smartphone from external particles such as dust.
Samsung said that unlocked versions of the Galaxy Fold will still work on all major US networks. However, T-Mobile's decision to drop the flagship phone might be a sign that there is still an underlying issue with the phone. T-Mobile has a history of taking risks when it comes to broken phones, but the company is not taking any chances with the new Galaxy Fold. For the company to back out of the deal might be a bad sign for Samsung.
Despite these shortcomings, Samsung is not planning to reduce the price of the Galaxy Fold nor offer a discount. Samsung is keen into keeping the price at $1,980. The new Galaxy Fold will be released sometime in September. The phone will be released in selected countries, and Samsung will reveal which countries are these soon.
