The relaunch of the Galaxy Fold is fast approach, but Samsung has some bad news to fans in smaller markets. According to the latest report, the initial release of the first foldable phone will only include major markets: US, UK, India, France, Germany, and South Korea.
Although Samsung hasn't confirmed this, the report is supposedly based on Galaxy Fold firmware files. It was previously reported the company is preparing to launch the device in more markets, but now the Netherlands and Italy are off the list.
There isn't an official relaunch date yet, but Samsung has an Unpacked event on August 7, so we should hear from them soon.
What Samsung announced today though is there will be September launch for the Galaxy Fold, albeit the lack of a specific date, and that it has already fixed issues that plagued the latest flagship.
The Galaxy Fold was originally set to be released April 26, but tech reviewers found that the phone wasn't as durable as expected. Samsung had to cancel all pre-orders due to the uproar, including US partners like Best Buy and AT&T.
Samsung said that it had extended the protective layer of the Galaxy Fold, which is perhaps the most important thing it did. Initial reviews of the phone indicated that the screen was damaged if you peel off the screen protector.
There are also "additional reinforcements," which refers to the external particles getting in through the hinge and damaged the screen from behind. Samsung has managed to cover it up. The space between the body and the hinge has been also reduced.
If initial reviewers had been decent, the Galaxy Fold would have been an interesting but incredible delicate smartphone, which could prompt regrets after buying since it costs close to $2000. Unless Samsung has done something significant to the software and the screen's overall durability separate from the above fixes, the revamped version could have the same issues.
According to Samsung, it has also been "optimizing more apps and services for its unique foldable UX," so we're expecting a lot of improvement. We'll definitely hear a word from tech reviewers soon.
At the time reviewers rallied for Samsung to recall the first units, the company did not issue an apology but instead thank its fans for their patience and support. Now, the pressure is real for the company, and we'll soon find out if Samsung will make it right for the Galaxy Fold this time.
