"Pokemon Go" fans going to the Pokemon World Championships next month will have one competition to be really excited about. The Pokemon Company announced today that the augmented reality game will have its first-ever official invitational that will take place during the annual world tournament. "Pokemon Go" trainers who love PvP content will have the chance to shine during the event on August 16 at the Pokémon World Championship.

PvP Tournament

Usually, the "Pokemon Go" World Championship concentrates on the trading card game. However, this year, for the very first time, "Pokemon Go" players will take center stage for the game's official PvP competition. In the past, many trainers have hosted their own "Pokemon Go" PvP tournaments.

All the player has to do is join any "Pokemon Go" local discord server. This will then bring up a channel where players can participate in the competition every now and then. However, the upcoming event is the first time that the Pokemon Company is going to help out.

The Pokemon Company also reserved the final slot for the lucky "Pokemon Go" player since the rest of the competitors are pre-selected. For those interested to join, simply visit the official website and attend the event and apply for a chance to win the last competitor position. Unfortunately, the slot is only available to "Pokemon Go" players in the US.

As for the pre-selected competitors in the upcoming PvP Tournament of "Pokemon Go" popular community members were picked out. This includes Game Freak designer Shigeki Morimoto and game Freak director Junichi Masuda. Other participants include UnlistedLeaf, Strawburry17, Yamada, Poké AK, PogoKieng, and One lucky fan. There will be two commentators for the event as well, CybertronProductions and Trainer Tips

Rules

As for the rules of the upcoming PvP tournament in "Pokemon Go," players will be competing in a double-elimination type of tournament. Every match in the official tournament will be a best of five types. The battles will happen in the Great league with several extra restrictions.

These restrictions include competitors strictly required to choose a team of six Pocket Monsters for the duration of the tournament. In addition, no six Pocket Monsters should be of the same species.

2019 World Championships

The Pokemon Company announced the "Pokemon Go" Invitational along with the announcement of this year's theme, which is 2019 World Championships. In 2018, the event was set in Nashville with a music theme. For this year, the event will be more focused on exploration inspired by the different museums scattered all over the country's capital.
